eDiscovery AI’s Early Case Intelligence functionality is more than a culling tool; it is a window into your dataset giving you insights that enhance and expand your understanding of your projects.
The situation
A law firm approached an eDiscovery AI partner regarding a received production and a tight timeframe on a Product Liability Class Action. The matter dealt with flaws in a complex consumer product, the design process of which is very difficult to follow for non-experts.
The solution
eDiscovery AI’s Early Case Intelligence™ solutions, Insight ECI™ and Case Elements™, helped identify the key documents in a dataset, organize it for a better understanding of your documents, and provides narrative summaries of issues, people and timelines within the document set.
How it was used
eDiscovery AI’s global partner, Sky Discovery, and their client, drafted a Case Narrative, asking Early Case Intelligence to create a step-by-step overview of the product design process, including references to documents and highlighting any individuals involved in the design process.
- The resulting overview gave the legal team a high-level overview of a complex process, with specific documents which enabled them to take a deep dive into the subject matter, without having to complete an initial first level review.
- The time savings for this are hard to quantify, but being able to quickly build a picture of incoming disclosure was invaluable to the client. Even with a complete 1LR completed by a subject matter expert, it would have taken weeks to create such a wide-ranging overview of such a complex subject matter, likely still missing documents – instead it took merely hours and provided priceless insight into the key documents.
- The legal team involved was deeply impressed with the quality of the output of the Narrative summary, describing the design flow and referencing specific documents. So much so that they have begun using the technology across multiple matters with similar applications. In all of them, they are getting a quick overview of an incoming disclosure and connecting the dots between seemingly disparate document sets, while enabling individuals with little previous knowledge of a topic to understand which the most important documents may be.
- It has now become a standard operating procedure on similar cases now and part of the review playbook for product liability matters.
